Frequently Asked Questions
How do I schedule an appointment?
The first step is always to schedule a Discovery Call. We do this with all our clients. This free phone call allows us to get to know each other and determine if we’re the right fit for your pet's needs. It's quick, easy, and the perfect way to start your training journey.
Where are you located?
We don’t have a physical facility—we come to you! We serve the Chicago area, including Des Plaines, Park Ridge, and surrounding suburbs. Our service areas include, but are not limited to, Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Glenview, Niles, Skokie, Evanston, Wilmette, Glencoe, and Highland Park. We specialize in private, in-home dog training services tailored to meet your needs. There is a travel fee that is applied if a trainer is traveling more than 25 mile to reach you. This is determined during the onboarding process.
What is the Discovery Call?
The Discovery Call is a free 15–20 minute phone consultation where we learn about your dog, your goals, and any behavioral concerns. It’s the first step to see how we can help you and your pet.
What methods do you use in training? Do you use shock/e-collars, prong collars, or chain collars?
As a force-free, positive-reinforcement-based training company, we are dedicated to using humane methods and tools that do not rely on punishment, fear, or intimidation. We neither use nor permit the use of aversive tools such as leash corrections, prong collars, choke chains, shock/e-collars, or any form of punishment during training. Instead of focusing on what our dogs shouldn’t do, we emphasize teaching them what we want them to do through positive, reward-based techniques. Recent studies have shown that these methods are far more effective than their punishment based counterparts. Not only do they encourage good behavior, but they help with you pets mental health and well-being.
How will I change my dog’s behavior without corrections or punishment?
It’s a common misconception that punishment is necessary to change a dog’s behavior. In reality, punishment often suppresses behaviors temporarily without addressing the root cause or teaching the dog what to do instead.
Our training focuses on reinforcing desirable behaviors while preventing and redirecting unwanted ones. By rewarding behaviors you want, like sitting calmly or walking politely on a leash, your dog learns that these actions bring positive outcomes. Over time, they naturally choose these behaviors because they’re rewarding.
Unwanted behaviors are addressed by managing the environment, redirecting the dog’s attention, and providing alternatives that meet their needs. For example, if your dog jumps on guests, we’ll teach them to sit for attention instead.
This approach builds trust and creates lasting results because your dog isn’t acting out of fear or avoidance but out of understanding and a desire to earn rewards. Plus, positive reinforcement is scientifically proven to be more effective than punishment in creating sustainable behavior change.
How long is a session?
Each session is scheduled within a 60 minute time period, however the length can vary based on the needs of your pet. Training new behaviors takes a lot of mental energy, and has the potential to become an exhausting experience for some pets if overdone. The goal is to have your pet develop a positive association with the process, so some sessions may be shorter in order to preserve the progress we have made. Conversely, some dogs require more patience and time, so if your session goes a little over the hour that’s okay. You pay for the session not the amount time.
How long will it take to fix my pet?
We're not just 'fixing' your pet. Our goal is to help them change how they react to challenging situations by teaching them better responses and desensitizing them to negative stimuli. Every dog is unique, so the time it takes to see results will vary. The one thing we can guarantee is that training is most effective when done consistently. For example, you'll see better progress if you schedule weekly sessions rather than monthly ones. Additionally, the training isn’t just for your pet — there will be tasks for you to work on with them between sessions. The success of this program depends on the effort you put into it.
