Hi there I’m Ellie, the owner of Shake!, and this is my story.
After completing my degree in Theatre, I began working at a dog daycare and boarding facility to support myself while acting in various small-scale productions in Chicago. There, I worked with thousands of different dogs with all kinds of temperaments and levels of training. Additionally, I walked dogs through apps like Wag! and Rover. What started as a side job soon became my passion, and I found myself working 14-16 hour days regularly. One day I found myself in a particularly difficult and dangerous situation with a dog that had unaddressed behavioral issues. I was completely unequipped and unprepared. This event inspired me to pursue a certificate in Advanced Canine Training from the Animal Behavior Institute. There, I received in-depth training in behavioral science and hands-on experience in treating complex behavioral problems in dogs using humane, science-backed, force-free methods. After my training, I had the privilege of shadowing some amazing trainers who share my vision for force-free training. Through this education and mentorship, I transitioned from feeling powerless to feeling empowered. Now, my mission is to provide pet parents with the tools, knowledge, and compassionate approach needed to transform their pets' behavior. I am eager to get to know you and your pet and to help empower you. From basic training to more intensive behavior modification, I’m here to support you and your pet every step of the way.
I do more than just train
WORK HARD, PLAY HARD!
I’m an avid collector
We all have our vices, and mine is collecting Squishmallows. If you haven’t heard of them, they are themed plush pillows. To my Fiance’s chagrin, I have collected over 220 over the past couple years (most of which he bought to make me happy!).
a partner in crime!
This is my fiancé, Isaiah—aka Za. This guy’s a tech wizard who swoops in to save me from the abyss of admin tasks and backend chaos. He also is my personal reminder to take time for meals and sanity breaks, which, let’s be honest, I desperately need more often than I’d like to admit. Za’s got this knack for calling it like he sees it. He’s the guy who’ll tell you there's spinach in your teeth right before you walk into a job interview—brutally honest but always with your best interests at heart. Oh, and let’s not forget the cheese addiction. Oh, the cheese! Whenever I buy string cheese for training the animals, I get an extra stash just for him. I should probably just buy stock in cheese companies at this point!
All jokes aside, I’m head over heels for this wonderful man. Without him, this whole business would still be a pipe dream, or worse, a nightmare crashing down around me. Za’s the unsung hero who keeps the gears greased, the lights on, and my sanity somewhat intact. Here’s to my favorite guy, the man who makes the magic happen!
Meet My boys (cats)
Haku
This is my Snowshoe cat, Haku. He loves going for walks (yes, you can take your cats on walks!) outside so much that he yells at us daily to take him out. Isaiah won’t admit it, but Haku is a total daddy’s boy!
Vinny
This menace is Vinny. We named him after Vincent Van Gogh because of his orange nature. He’s very demanding, which is useful because it ensures I’m never late to feed him. He's also very loving. He spends most nights laying on my feet in bed, burrowing himself under the covers and insisting we stay still. Isaiah and I joke and call him “the Don,” as he runs this family like the Mafia (we let him).
